PRECISE DESIGN

No need to write much about this workshop. The results speak for themselves. All we can say is that we are amazed by the outcome – many groups can present not just one final concept, but several great designs. And some mockups, too. Created in just 48 hours. The topic: explore the culture in your city, region and country – in this case Coburg, Franconia and Germany – by creating designs that:
- are a modern version of a traditional product
- highlight a typical behavior
- solve a problem

The outcome? An upgraded version of the good ol’ beer coaster, kitchen cutting boards for German precision, a device that splits off the table so you won’t have to share it with people you don't know... and much more. Scroll down the page to check it out.

German precision – now also in the kitchen

Germans precision taken one step further: haven’t you always wished you’d be able to control exactly how many millimeters of cucumber you’re about to cut? Or the angle of your onion slice? One concept, three different cutting board designs.

social beer bench + anti-social beer table

No, these products are not very good in combination with each other. And they’re not really meant to be. One is for the German habit called ‘shunkel’: to hold arms and lean from side to side with the music. With a beer bench that wiggles from side to side, shunkling comes natural and nobody is left out – even if they would want to.
The table separator, on the other hand, is a solution to a common problem in Germany: table space is limited and beer drinking is popular, so it often happens that people who don't know each other have to share the same beer table. Of course they would never start talking to each other. Better then to separate them. Which is exactly what this wooden board does in a simple and elegant way, with a style inspired by cuckoo clocks.

sing&ride – sharing joy of music in Coburg

There’s a man in Coburg who rides his bike through the city with a stereo player on his shoulder while singing loudly. He seems happy. Maybe others could share his joy? Hence the idea of a sing&ride festival – an annual event where Coburg citizens can hit the road on their bikes. The sing&ride radio, broadcasting only one frequency – the sing&ride radio station – would promote the event and bring bikers together, and can be used throughout the rest of the year on your own bike. Yeah, who wouldn't want sing and ride everyday with such a cool little device.

German punctuality & need for instructions

These are the facts: Germans are punctual. And they require detailed instructions for carrying out every little task. This self-instructive chair and bed sheets take the need for instructions to a new level. And with help from a clock that’s notoriously 5 minutes ahead of time, the good German can be on top of things and will never be late for an appointment.

beer coasters for creative destruction

Beer coasters exist for one single purpose – and it’s not for putting your glass on. No, these poor little things are the victims of beer table boredom, and usually get ripped to pieces by beer drinkers trying to keep themselves occupied while downing another glass. Hence these multi-layered coasters that are made to be torn apart. Tadaa – some fun destruction for the beer drinker, with a funny message as a reward. Or why not use the coaster for advertisement. Picture getting blurry? Time to call a cab.
